Best waffle maker I've used
It does what it says it will do. You can adjust the crisp settings to make them real crispy. A pro tip, use a little cornflour in your waffle better if you want them light and crispy. The only downside is if your batter expands a lot or is more than a half cup measurement, it overfill and leaks a doughy substance. Also its a bit hard to clean when it gets stuck in the back but overall cleaning is fairly straightforward. The waffles produced are on the thinner side but if you prefer thicker waffles it doesn't make them. Still the best waffle maker I've used as I hate soggy waffles and it allows me to control the crisp levels.

Waffles don’t stick, but are thin and dense
Used my usual waffle mixture. The waffles cooked evenly and come out of the machine easily, but they are so thin and dense. I will try once more, and if i get the same results, willI look for a new waffle maker. Any suggestions? I liked my old sunbeam one, but they don’t seem to do it anymore.....prior to that I had an electric cast iron one which was amazing but died as it was so old.
Wouldn’t recommend this machine.

Very often we've found that recipes result in the variety of results experienced, have you had a chance to try one of the recipes from the instruction book? The maker does not allow the waffles to be any thicker.

Frustrated and dissapointed
I purchased this more expensive waffle maker from a well known Company with the expectation of it lasting for years.
It is now just over a year old and for the last month or so I have had issues with waffles sticking. When I checked warranty it had just expired. I have adjusted setting, I have adjusted batter nothing has worked and it progressively got worse. Today is the last time it is going in the trash, I have had to use a knife to get them out. The batter was completely wasted. I can't afford this, so I will not be purchasing this again.

Disappointing results as machine gets older
Found that waffles started sticking to the non stick surface. I do use my machine a lot, and am very disappointed that I will have to replace my machine so soon. It’s only just over a year old. I have followed all cleaning instructions. I won’t buy this product again.

A treat for the whole family
Always wanted one but thought it’d be too much f a hassle as opposed to making pancakes. Well, I stand corrected, the ease of making waffles was surprising. Followed the basic recipe and to our delight, the family totally enjoyed. Thought the quantity amount would not be enough as it only makes 6, though I squeezed 7 and was planning to double recipe next time. There is no need to double quantity as this was a perfect amount. We even split the last one with tummies full.
Happy customer to the waffle and would recommend.

Purchased this model online 2 weeks ago from appliances online.
I've always wanted one but was too pricey, this one was $59 and is simple to use
Small in size on outside and makes a 5 heart section waffle on the inside
instruction book is easy to understand and I found a few recipes in the back I tried.
The classic recipe works well so far,I didnt know waffle recipes could be so different. Tried one from taste.com and that was good too
Has a dial on the outside that lets u do soft of crispy waffles in next to no time. 3/5 min.
Easy to clean, nothing sticks and I just wipe over with paper towel when its cool.
One thing I dont like tho,is the handles you press together on the outside get very hot and when you go to lift the lid it can get hot on your arm and hand when steam comes out in a burst so be careful with that and lift by the right corner of the lid handle and move your arm out of the way.
Other than that its great .we have used it 3 times so far and is easy and fast and waffles turn out brilliantly and youndont have to hold it closed all the time when cooking, just close it shut push lids together and leave it.
Will try some different recipes and other options as i can see have been suggested in the reviews.. I love it

Fabulous Waffles - so easy!
This is such a perfect waffle maker! Never need oil so it’s healthier and no need to clean - if some residual is there it just comes off without rubbing. Very easy to use, never have failures even kids use it. Our Sunday breakfast is always waffles and can’t be happier than this product. Highly recommend to anyone. Very compact to store too. I followed the recipe in the enclosed booklet but you can simply use the normal pancake ingredients which are not using butter and sugar.

Kids love it!
My kids love pancakes and waffles and this makes it so easy. I just use the Aldi pancake mix and they turn out beautifully. No worrying about flipping over pancakes and they cook so quickly! Have tried cake mix and it also works well. Lots of recipes on pinterest to try as well. Well worth the $50 I paid wish I had bought one years ago.

Great fun to use
Instruction booklet says to hold it closed, but that's only needed initially and then you can let go. It works well - absolutely no complaints. The booklet is well written, although I am yet to try any of the recipes in it - instead I've taken recipes from a Danish cookbook. Being able to wrap the cord around underneath for storage is a good idea. Love the finished heart shapes of the waffles.

Good present!
This is the first machine that I’ve achieved for making waffles and it works spectacularly. Although there are no timers on the machine/waffle maker, we just set timers on our phones. The cooking itself makes no difference in the taste however the noise is quite unpredictable, sometimes loud and sometimes soft. The temperature all around is often very hot to the touch ( as it is cooking the waffles ) so that would harm our fingers. The clean-up is easy enough ( whilst making the waffle mixture is a different story ) to rid of the grease made by the waffle and overall, it is a great addition.

So far so good
Not too bad, l'm a little concerned with the steam that comes out from the sides as it's really hot, and you need to hold down the front for a while for the food inside to spread out. The recipes in the book I really easy to follow and seem to work really well.

Great Price, Lovely Heart Design and Makes Nice Waffles
Although it's really just making one waffle at a time, the great thing is that you can break apart the 'hearts' and share them straight away while the next one is cooking. I especially like that the hearts are toddler size and really easy to hold. Aside from the aesthetics of the waffles themselves, the machine works great. I am a crispy waffle lover and it really does the job well, I just turn the dial all the way to the right and it lets me know when it's done.
I chose this one because it was a really good price, almost half the price of the bigger waffle makers, and honestly now that I have this handy little machine that doesn't take up much space, I use it nearly every single day because it's just super easy. Easy to manage all the way around, easy to store, easy to just make a waffle or two if it's just my son and I at home, easy to put away, and I love easy.
A tip would be to make sure you use a non-stick spray, even though I know it's already non-stick, with a little bit of extra, it just allows the waffle to easily come right out. When filling the bottom part of the waffle maker, make sure there is room for the batter to spread out a bit, so don't have it already full to the edges before putting the lid down otherwise they will run over! Definitely use a plastic or wooden spatula, and have a wire rack to cool them if you aren't eating them right away, this way they don't get soggy because of the heat on the plate. I've also frozen and toasted them in the toaster afterwards and they were still as good as before, just a little crispier!
You can definitely use the shake pancake batter, I've tried the gluten free one from Aldi, it was a hit and it made 6 really perfect sized waffles. I've also made the more traditional waffles with the flour, eggs, milk, butter and sugar, and they were great. I've also made more healthy waffles with a DIY oat, chia seed, linseed, coconut flake blended base, then added the wet ingredients and that came out great too. Lots of options and they cook so quickly, so it's a nice easy option with a hungry toddler!
Overall I highly recommend it. I am so happy with our heart shaped waffle maker and I love the idea that we are a waffle family now, silly but it feels really good. :)

Finally fulfilled a childhood dream of mine
Ever since I was a kid I longed to have a waffle maker at home, to cook delicious heart shaped waffles I loved so much when on holiday. And this was the perfect buy for it. Very impressend with the non-stick function. Waffles come out easily. Different heat settings are great. I just use my recipe for banana pancakes to make the waffles and they turn out nice.
Yes the hinges seem loose but I guess that is to allow for the batter to raise.
Not sure why it says to hold both handles when cooking the waffle. ??? Also, the handles do get a bit hot.

Makes tasty waffles quickly - a few minor quibbles
Once you've got the batter made up (takes 20-30 minutes and lasts in the fridge for 2-3 days) the crisp control will make delicious hot waffles in a few minutes - great for the mornings if you pre-made the batter. I like its simple and effective controls, the speed with which it cooks and the easy clean non-stick surface that, if past experience with similar breville products is anything to go by, will last for years. It's also nicely compact and doesn't take up too much bench or cupboard space.
There a couple of things that bother me. First is the rather loose, rattly hinge that holds the two halves of the waffle maker together. On an appliance that retails for 60 bucks I'd expect better (I got mine on special though). Second, the plain batter recipe in the instruction booklet is inaccurate (not sure about the others). A recipe that's supposed to make 6 waffles makes enough batter for 9 or 10 - enough to feed four people comfortably. If you're cooking for one or two people the batter can go off before you use it up (unless you really like waffles).
Overall this is a good buy - it does what it's supposed to quickly and effectively with not much fuss.
Hi Ben - thanks for your comments and the test kitchen will be advised of your thoughts on the batter recipe. The Breville team

You can either have 5 heart shaped waffles or one large waffle.
Love the crisp control and the coating is very easy to clean and looks very long lasting.
Dont be tempted to use more than half a cup of batter or top wont stay closed.

Questions & Answers
The waffle machine has the ability to set the temperature to make waffles crispy which is a great feature.Hi, I wouldn't say they are crunchy but do have a crisp taste. They are crispy once removed from maker but if you pile on top of each other, they become soft but still taste great. No different when adding toppings. Good recipe does make a difference too.
Can this waffle maker be used to make ice cream cones?
Hi, I doubt it. The waffles are quite thick whereas the cones need to be extremely thin and 'stiff' enough to hold their shape when formed as a cone. There is another brand - Russell Hobbs, available through Target - which now makes a waffle 'basket' shape, sort of like a little bowl shape, but it still has to be eaten with a spoon (the waffle takes the place of a bowl, effectively, with ice cream etc. placed inside it once the waffle basket is cooked).

Worst waffle maker
I used this yesterday for the first time and it was stuck everywhere, it did not come out easily like my other machine does. I had a hard time cleaning it, obviously I had to put in water for it to soften before I could remove everything! Very disappointing machine. Without giving up, I tried a second time, now I brush oil on it so that it won't stick, I had it on 'high', and while it is smoking, I pour in the batter. But results were disappointing in that the final result shows very uneven browning! It is not crisp at all unless you keep it in there until it burns!
My advice is don't buy even a second hand one as it creates more work just to eat that small thin piece of waffle!

Don't waste your money
This is one of the worst products I have ever purchased I am not at all surprised that this product has been discontinued. The so called non stick surface has to be swimming in oil for the waffle mix not to stick and even then it is hit or miss. I have now thrown mine in the bin after many failed attempts to use it and my children have been disappointed on more than one occasion.

Not bad for a cheap waffle maker
Got this as 2nd hand item and made some waffles and they turned out well. , remember this is NOT a belgium waffle maker. It is never gonna make those type of big thick waffles.

2nd just read a comment on the waffles steaming rather than crisping up.
TIP wait till the steam stops and cook for a few more mins to crisp up but u may need to keep it on a med setting depending on sugar content.
Moister needs to evaporate before it crisps
the same as deep frying

Diasspointed in this product
20+ years ago we were given a 'Hearts' waffle maker made by Kambrook. This made heart shape Belgian style waffles which we were replacing because it is no longer non-stick. After seeing this product we though great a replacement. The maximum thickness of the waffles is approximately 1cm. With the temperature up full it only just cooked the outside crispy.

Disappointed!
I have had 3 waffle makers by Breville - and this is the worst. i am an experienced cook and have always made waffles with great results. This waffle maker turns out waffles that are flat and thin - almost like biscuits. I have tried varying cooking times and heat, no real difference. Previous waffle makers have turned out lovely fluffy waffles - and they were small handy appliances like this. it's almost like the lid is too heavy and won't let the waffles rise. I would prefer to take back to store and get a refund, its taking up room and not ever going to be used.

Creator of tasty morsels
Like other have said, it is a cheap machine, heats up quickly, and delivers yummy waffles. We have now had ours for about a year, and used it a lot. However, now starting to find it not as 'non-stick' as others have mentioned in their reviews as well. I did find that following the instructions and heating the machine up to the full temperature, then turning it down to a mid browing temperature reduced the amount that the waffles stuck.
It is a small machine though so is easy to store amongst all the other devices that you probably don't really need. It would have been good though if the cord could be wrapped around it for storage and if the metal plates could be removed for cleaning. That said, they are not too difficult to wipe out.
For the price though it is a good machine and does cook the waffle very evenly.
Cheap, heats up fast
Lost its non-stickness

Not a very good product
got this machine after used a sunbeam one borrowed from my sister in law and got hooked. searched high and low and only found the braville one in the shop, thought all the machine should work the same and braville is a trusted brand. However, the results were quit disappointing after using it for two days. First, you have to turn it to 'darker' to really get any colour on it and for it to be hot enough to have the crunchiness that makes a good waffle. Second, the waffle is often dark on the outside but not entirely cooked on the inside. I have experimented a few different ways to work the settings and found out I have to use 'darker' first than move the control to the middle and cook the waffle for additional 2 to 3 minutes for the inside to cook correctly. I just want something that works well and don't require too much fiddling.
We brought three of them, one for ourselves and one each for our sons who are moving into new flats. I think we are going to return the other two.
Very disappointed.
Hi, I have used it for over 2years now and have never had a problem. I suppose like with all new appliances you just have to 'get to know' it and get used to it. I turn the setting to 3/4 of the dial (closer to 'darker') and wait good 3-4 minutes for each waffle to cook nicely inside and brown off on the outside. Sometimes the 'crispiness' will depend on the batter - thick/thin, more/less sugar, type of flour used, milk or water etc. Good luck!:)

really nice waffles
really easy to use, and super quick to heat up. They colour up nicely too. I love them with chocolate syrup and whipped cream, or just plain for my lunch. good for the fussy eaters, if you don't eat them all you just wait till they have cooled down stick greaseproof paper between them (so they don't stick) and freeze them, then you can pull them out the next morning and stick them in the toaster

Excellent
This waffle maker makes the traditional Scandinavian (or German), thin heart-shaped waffles that I know from my childhood. If you prefer the thicker, rectangular Belgium waffles you would need to buy a Belgium waffle maker (and use a yeast dough that the Belgium ones are traditionally made of.)
All recipes in the booklet seem to require beating the egg whites separately, but back in Europe we never did, and I found a lot of simple, tasty recipes elsewhere that don't call for this.
It is very easy to use, cooks the waffles evenly and regulating the browning is simple.
Nothing really. I found it a bit hard to clean around the hinges after I overfilled it the first time and the batter spilled out the back, but that would be the case with any model.

This waffle maker is fantastic and so easy to use. Heats up quickly but make sure you lightly spray with oil before each use. I use the pancake premix from supermarkets and it works excellent every time. It cost me around $45 and worth every dollar. I highly recommend it to you all.

Breville Waffle Recipes
I like it, children love it. Find yourself a simple/basic recipe and adapt the ingredients to suit different occasions. Try using up left-overs, mix with rice or mashed potato and a beaten egg and have for lunch or a snack. Have fun with it.
It's neat, compact and easy to use. My children love the waffles. Waffles can be presented whole as a flower shape or easily separated into smaller heart shapes. Use as a nice weekend breakfast treat or sometimes we serve with icecream and maple syrup as a special dessert idea.
Not as non-stick as I expected, but I've found that as long as I spray with a little vegetable oil prior to cooking each waffle, this prevents them from sticking. Recipes are a little involved if you want a simple waffle, beating the egg-whites separately takes too long for my liking, so I don't separate them. Take care not to overfill waffle maker or it's tricky to clean, especially around the hinges.

OK
I bought this after my husband ordered some wonderful looking waffles when we were out once. I was hoping for a Belgium Waffle maker but at the time this was the only commercial one available.
My kids love the waffles, but I think they're more like pancakes. They're quite thin and firm and like I said, I often have to make the darkness setting as high as it will go to get them to be browned at all.
Overall a bit of a disappointment. Next time I'll be looking for a Belgium Waffle Maker instead.
It's easy to use.
It's compact.
You get nice fresh waffles at home.
The waffles are very thin.
The darkness guage seems to be out a little.

Waffles are a winner when we have friends over. This machine makes them very simple and easy to make and cleaning it is quite easy (as long as you don't put too mcuh in and overflow it - user mistake, not the machine!)
Very simple to use just mix up the batter, pour it in and put the lit down, coloured indicator lights tell you when its hot enough and when the waffle is done, can adjust how well cooked you want your waffle with the darkness control
The recipes for batters are a bit involved but I got a simple batter recipe from an older model booklet and its great

My family and I are very happy with this product - the waffles turn out beautifully every time. I have had no problems with the colour setting - just set the dial to your preferred colour and leave it there. I would recommend.
It makes very pretty waffles - you can serve each waffle as a whole one kind of shaped like a flower or break each one up into mini heart shaped waffles - lovely served dusted with icing sugar.
The recipes although delicious can be a bit involved ie whipping egg whites and folding in - not as easy as I'd like first thing in the morning so because of that we only really get it out for lazy Sunday breakfasts

It's nice but it doesn't really get much use. It is really simple to use and quite small and compact. I would prefer waffles a bit fatter than this, but it is still very good. This is probably a good option if you really love waffles, but I think for most people it probably just makes more sense to go down to the local shop and buy some.
Cooks waffles nicely. Good range of recipes with it.
I'm not so sure the darkness control works very well- I guess it's similar with toasters. Easy to overflow it.

Couldn't agree more. Having major difficulty even getting them to cook, with very little batter. Produces very thin, evenly uncooked (!) waffles. Buy them from the supermarket and reheat or go to your local cafe, this thing is useless. I'm a very experienced cook and I can't get it to work well. Plus, three minutes? Who the hell are they kidding? Holding it hard down with much less batter than recommended (the 1/2cup recommended just overflows) it takes about 10 minutes at top temperature setting to produce a crispy outside and an inside like an undone pancake. Tried four different recipes, one from the book that comes with, no luck. It can't possibly be this tricky to make a simple bloody waffle! LOL Don't bother is my advice, total waste of money.I'll second that!!Feel better after reading these comments.. I thought maybe it was just me. I had the same waffle maker for 20 years and it made lovely 'crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside' buttermilk waffles. This recipe was a disaster.. so tried the ones in the booklet and didn't fare any better. Have to hold the handle down tightly for about 4 minutes on the darkest setting, even then the back of the waffle doesn't brown. Waffles seem to be steamed, making them dense and a bit soggy. I've even had to try and dry them out a bit in the oven. Very disappointing!. Some of the comments here are quite positive.. so obviously some have had more success than others. I tend to agree with the 'go to your local shop or cafe' suggestions!!
